STEM Lecture - Hartlepool Borough Hall
October 22 Year 6
A group of our Year 6 children were chosen to participate in the Annual Regional STEM Lecture at Hartlepool Borough Hall. The children enjoyed an afternoon of aspirational thinking in a community of other primary schools, local secondary schools as well as Further Education students. We hope this has set their minds working on potential STEM based pathways in their futures.
NHS Webinar
February 23 Year 5-6
Our Year 5 and Year 6 children took part in a wonderful career-led learning event. They joined schools nationally in a careers' webinar hosted by the NHS. Our children got to meet NHS workers, learn about the many different career paths that the NHS offers and question the guest speakers about what their roles entail.
Mrs Gillespie - High Tunstall Secondary School
February 23 Year 6
Thank you to Mrs Gillespie from High Tunstall, who delivered a fantastic heart dissection lesson to our Year 6 children. Children had the opportunity to see, first-hand, the different parts of the heart, including all four chambers. It was brilliant to see the character our children displayed when engaging in this activity. Mrs Gillespie was very impressed!
Author Visit at Yarm High School - A.F. Steadman
Year 5 and Year 6 had an inspiring morning at Yarm School, taking part in a talk by author A.F. Steadman. She spoke about her own journey to becoming an author as well as her inspiration for her novel, 'Skandar and the Unicorn Thief'. Our children even helped her create a new unicorn that may be added to one of her future novels. Many of our children came away from the event with their own signed copies of the book and all of them came away with smiles on their faces.
Puss in Boots Competition
March 23 Year 5-6
The competition encouraged children to share five things that they would most like to try in their lifetime as part of a life full of adventure. Children celebrated the fulfilment that everyday experiences can bring, whilst thinking confidently about their ambitions. It is wonderful to see so many of our children thinking so maturely when considering what they would like to achieve in their lives.
Teesworks Skills Academy, Middlesbrough
March 23 Year 6
A number of our Year 6 children were invited to take part in an aspirations visit called 'My Green Future', at Teesworks Skills Academy in Middlesbrough. This was another successful aspirations event where the children had the opportunity to learn about green technologies and career pathways into this industry. It was especially pleasing to receive an email from the organiser saying our children were a credit to the school, were all engaged in the workshop, asked some incredible questions and have great future career ideas, too!
Careers Week
March 23 Year 3-6
As part of our Aspire2Be programme, our children in Year 3 to Year 6 put their 'thinking caps' on and considered their aspirations for the future. They reflected on their own personal attributes and looked at a range of pathways for the future in terms of further education and career types.
Hartlepool Art Gallery
The Arts Award group visited Hartlepool Art Gallery. The children looked around the gallery and drew portraits of themselves. The children thoroughly enjoyed looking at the different art work.
International Women's Day 2023
March 23
To celebrate International Women's Day some of our Year 6 children shared what they aspire to be. The children discussed playing their part in a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination where difference is valued and celebrated.
Emotional Health & Transition Workshop
Thank you to our School Nurse for delivering a valuable session on emotional and mental health to our Year 6 children. The session covered a range of strategies that we can all use to manage our feelings. There was also a discussion around transition to secondary school and the support available.
March 23 Year 4
Some of our Year 4 children visited Teesworks Skills Academy in Middlesbrough where they had the opportunity to work with Spark Tees Valley. Children were involved in an interactive STEM session, looking at the future of industry in the Tees Valley area and the potential roles that they could play in their futures.
March 23 Year 5
Thank you to Teesworks Skills Academy for another fantastic aspirations workshop. A number of our Year 5 children enjoyed learning how to tackle climate change through industries that are bringing about changes in reducing emissions. As always, our children represented the Fens' community incredibly well.
Pamela Green - GMI Construction
March 23 Year 3
Thank you to Pamela Green from GMI Construction who visited our Year 3 children. The children had the opportunity to hear about the construction industry and the many careers that a company like GMI Construction can offer. Children even enjoyed constructing their own structures using jelly beans and marshmallows.
Emma Whittaker - Brown & Mason Demolition
A group of our Year 4 children would like to say a BIG thank you to Emma Whittaker from Brown and Mason Group Limited for her visit to school. The children enjoyed learning about the work involved in this area and opening their minds to the jobs available in the demolition industry. Thank you again to Emma for organising a special Easter egg hunt as well as the chimney building activity.
Dean Cartwright - Hartlepool United
April 23 Year 3-6
We have met with Dean Cartwright who works for Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation. On Wednesday 24th May, he is looking forward to working with our children who have expressed an interest in job opportunities in football.
Cleveland Fire Brigade
April 23 Year 3
Our Year 3 children had a great morning meeting a local Cleveland Fire Brigade team who discussed the different roles available in the fire service. They also talked about the skills which they learnt in school and use in their job today, what a day in their working life is like and what they enjoy the most about their role working in the fire service. To end the session, we visited their fire truck for a tour and were excited to hear their sirens as they drove out of our school carpark!
Kusum Chawla - Health and Smile Dental Practice
April 23 Year 4
Year 4 children were excited to meet Kusum Chawla from Health and Smile Dental Practice in Hartlepool. She talked to the children about her career as a dentist and how the subjects in school helped her to achieve her dream job. It was wonderful to hear that we have some aspiring dentists in Year 4 and to be also invited to her practice in the near future.
David Smith - Northumbria University Ambassador
April 23 Year 5
Our Year 5 children met David Smith a graduate ambassador from Northumbria University. Children had the opportunity to complete a Maths and English workshop which focused on raising awareness and aspiration to Higher Education. Year 5 were introduced to the range of subjects available to study and hear about what student life is like at Northumbria University.
Lyndsey Morgan - Makeup Specialist
Thank you to Lyndsey Morgan for her time, delivering a talk to a group of aspiring make-up specialists. Our children gained a valuable insight into this industry and the role Lyndsey plays in making people feel special on a range of occasions.
David Cundell - Community First Responder
April 23 Year 6
Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon in school thanks to David Cundell, a Community First Responder. Thank you for sharing your role as a volunteer and for teaching our children some valuable life-saving skills. This was a great way to end our Science unit on the circulatory system.
Author Assembly - Beth Walker
April 23 Year 3-4
Children enjoyed a live event from an author, Beth Walker. Beth spoke about things she loves (art, history, museums) and hates (loud noises, cucumbers) and what it’s like to be an author. She inspired the children with stories of where all of her ideas came from and our children got the chance to ask questions.
Samantha Reeve - Natwest Money Sense Workshop
April 23 Year 2
Thank you to Samantha Reeve from NatWest who has worked with our Year 2 children and supported them with a 'Super Smoothie' workshop. Children were given a budget and a choice of ingredients. They loved spending their budget to create their smoothies.
NERAP Lego Engineering STEM Careers
May 23 Year 5
Our Year 5 children have completed a Lego engineering workshop with Erin from Teesside University. They were guided through potential courses, options, and careers as well as considering how engineering is vital to creating the world we live in. Children received their design briefs and equipment and worked in teams to design and develop their Lego vehicles before they went head-to-head in a final competition - all while considering some typical challenges engineers must overcome when meeting a design brief's specification.
Paula McMahon - Sir Robert McAlpine
May 23 Year 1
Thank you to Paula McMahon from Sir Robert McAlpine who worked with our Year 1 children. The children enjoyed learning about her role as a civil engineer through story telling. Her books are aimed at inspiring and encouraging young girls (and boys) in engineering and STEM subjects.
Dean Cartwright - Hartlepool Football Club
May 23 Year 3-6
Thank you to Dean Cartwright from Hartlepool Football Club who worked with some of our Key Stage 2 children. He spoke to the children about various job roles available in a career in sport. We hope to visit Hartlepool Football Club soon.
NERAP Sphero Coding
May 23 Year 6
Erin, from North East Raising Aspiration Partnership, worked with our Year 6 children, raising their aspirations in careers involving coding. Alongside the support of two Teesside University Ambassadors, Erin gave our children tasks and challenges where they were able to control and navigate a spherical robot around our Bousfield Suite. Children particularly enjoyed changing their robot's colour and enabling it to speak!
Hartlepool College of Further Education
Some of our Year 5 children were invited to take part in an Aspire2Be visit to Hartlepool College of Further Education. The children were met by the college staff and enjoyed a presentation to find out about the courses available at the college. This was followed by a tour where the children had the opportunity to visit some exciting areas, including the aerospace aircraft hangar, fuselage, automotive garage, construction workshops and the salon.
Reception – NHS Jobs for Everyone
June-July 23
Next half-term, our Reception classes are participating in an exciting and unique project about NHS and Social Care Careers. The children will be introduced to over 20 different roles that they could aspire to be when they are older. The project promotes equality and diversity, and dispels stereotypes. The children will have the opportunity to meet staff from the NHS who will talk about their jobs. The children were super excited to receive a package of NHS uniforms and resources that they can wear and use for role-play in the classroom.
Elliott McCarthy - Dental
June 23 Year 4
Thank you to Therapist, Joanne Brown, and Dental Nurse, Laura Williamson, from Elliott McCarthy Dental and Implant Clinic, Hartlepool for visiting a group of our Year 4 children. The children learned first-hand about the career opportunities in dentistry, while consolidating previous learning from their science unit on Teeth. It is fantastic to see our children continuing to learn from our wider community.
Sergeant Gemma Kimble – Royal Air Force
June 23 Year 3-6
In our KS2 assembly, children had the opportunity to meet Sergeant Gemma Kimble from the Royal Air Force. The children got to hear about a range of careers and pathways available in the RAF.
Great North Air Ambulance Assembly
June 23 Reception-Year 6
In our whole school assembly, we welcomed Ellie from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The children enjoyed listening to the fantastic work the GNAAS do as well as hearing more details about the roles that the crew members carry out as their jobs.

A number of our Year 2 children were invited to take part in a visit to Hartlepool College of Further Education. The children were met by the college staff for a tour of the college and they enjoyed a range of hands-on practical construction related tasks.
NHS Jobs for Everyone Programme
June 23 Reception
As part of the NHS Jobs for Everyone Programme, our Reception children were invited to participate in the first of their virtual jobholder events. The children met a physiotherapist; we now know what a physiotherapist does.
Keith Robson – Artist/Illustrator
Our aspiring artists in Years 3-6 were excited to welcome and work with an extremely talented local artist from Hartlepool, Keith Robson. It was fascinating to hear about Keith's career and share the work he has created for comics such as 'Beano' and 'Dandy'.
Visit to Porsche Teesside
June 23 Year 6
A group of our Year 6 children visited the Porsche Centre Teesside to find out about a range of roles in the motor industry. It was great to meet their wonderful staff who were extremely accommodating and welcoming. Our children got a great deal from the visit.
Visit to Hartlepool United Football Club
July 23 Year 5-6
Thank you to Dean and Tracy from Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation for being very generous with their time in giving a number of our children a tour around the Hartlepool United FC Suit Direct stadium. Our children thoroughly enjoyed completing a quiz as they toured all areas of the ground.

Our nursery children have been asked what they would like to be when they are older. What a fantastic range of answers.
Geoff Scott – Keepmoat Construction
July 23 Year 3-6
Children in Key Stage 2 were excited to meet Geoff Scott from Keepmoat Homes, Seaton Carew. They found out about construction and the build environment, jobs which could be available to them when they are older and the dangers of playing around a building site.
Geoff has left the children with a task to create their own construction health and safety posters which will be sent to their sign writers and displayed on the hoarding at their Antler Park site. In September, these children will be invited to the site where they can view their posters and find out who is the lucky winner of an Amazon voucher!
