Reading Raffle Term 3a

Well done to those children who have been reading at least 3 times per week. These are the lucky children whose names have been pulled out of the raffle box.

Author Event for Year 3 and Year 4

Our children in LKS2 have enjoyed a live event from an author this morning. Beth spoke about things she loves (art, history, museums) and hates (loud noises, cucumbers) and what it’s like to be an author. She inspired the children with stories of where all of her ideas came from and our children got the chance to ask questions. Children were then able to purchase books and have them dedicated and signed from Beth. A great morning was had by all!

Tree Planting Ceremony

As an act of remembrance for the late Queen Elizabeth II, a group of children from Fens (along with children from across Hartlepool) attended a tree planting ceremony. During the ceremony, they had the opportunity to plant some trees and they also read out some of the work they had written about Queen Elizabeth.

World Book Day

Children had a fantastic time celebrating 'World Book Day'. They particularly enjoyed coming to school dressed as their favourite book character and sharing their love of reading with their friends.

World Book Day Classroom Door Competition

All classes took part in a World Book Day door competition. Each door was designed around the theme of a book. The reading leaders then toured the school to vote for their favourite book. The winning door was the door that depicted the movie and book 'Up'.

Skandar and the Unicorn Thief

Our Year 5 and Year 6 children have had a wonderful morning at Yarm School meeting the author A.F Steadman. The children listened to a reading from the book and then they were asked to create their own unicorn. Our children took part in the discussion as part of a 1000 plus audience. We all had a brilliant time.

Year 3 and Year 4 Author Event

Our children had the most amazing experience when they met Jack Meggit-Phillips. The children were captivated by his tales and became authors themselves during their live event. They then listened to the recital of Jack’s first book. Thank you Richard from Drake Bookshop Stockton for this opportunity.

Y5 and Y6 Author Event

A magical adventure rooted in Muslim culture and tradition, Nura and the Immortal Palace follows a young girl's journey from modern-day Pakistan into the world of the jinn.

Nura has worked all her life in the mica mines, earning just enough to keep her family afloat - and enjoy the odd delicious gulab jamun from the market. Some day she's going to find the Demon's Tongue, a legendary treasure buried deep in the mines, and her family will never have to worry about money again.

When a terrible accident buries her best friend below ground, Nura goes in search of him and passes over into the magical and terrible world of the jinn. Across a pink sea and under a purple sky, she finds her way to a palace, where great riches and a whole new life are on offer.

But it's not long before Nura discovers this world to be as unfair as the real one, and that trickster jinns will always live up to their reputation...

We are very excited to have been able to offer this event from the other side of the world and we hope some of our children would like to read the book.

Share a Story With me

It has been fantastic to welcome our school community into school this week. Families in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have enjoyed sharing a story together.

'Absolutely loved being in the school and reading stories together. We both thoroughly enjoyed it.'
'This was lovely! We loved sharing a story together'
'This was amazing. As a grandparent to share with my grandson and see how he has blossomed, thank you.'

Reading Leaders

Well done to our children who have been chosen to be Reading Leaders. They have already got lots of ideas planned to continue to promote our love of reading in school and at home.

World Poetry Day

Children across school have been reading and writing poetry for a competition. Thank-you to everyone that took part; it was really difficult to pick the winners.

Author’s Aloud

Our children in KS2 attended an online author event on Friday 10th December. We joined the author Catherine Doyle who talked about her newly published book ‘The Miracle on Ebenezer Street’.

‘When George stumbles across Marley's Curiosity Shop, he finds a mysterious and magical snow globe. George and his Scrooge of a dad are soon swept on an incredible adventure to Christmases past, present and future. With help from an enthusiastic elf, a rather grumpy purple reindeer and a very mischievous Nan, can George find a way to bring the joy of Christmas home once again?’

The children really enjoyed the event and lots of them purchased a signed copy to share with their family and friends.
