Aspire2Be Provision - Implemented Experiences 2024/2025:
NETwork NOTwork – Junior Journalism
September 24 Year 5
Our Year 5 children took part in a pilot Junior Journalism programme hosted by Network Notwork. We welcomed Kat, Charlotte, Michael and Mike who transformed our Bousfield Suite and Heron Room into a podcasting studio with green screen. The children researched the ‘boss’ (business owner assigned to the group) using information guides, business flyers and the company’s website to produce a list of questions to be used in an interview later in the day. Each group also completed an entrepreneur challenge, pitching an invention to the ‘boss’.
On the afternoon, our two groups of Year 5 children met their assigned ‘bosses’: Paul Cooper, who created the Pocket Sergeant App for the Police, and Jen Jarvie, a private investigator. The groups took it in turns to ask their interview questions via audio-visual podcast. Children were able to assist with video and equipment operation, learning skills including green screen and camera operation.
Harvey & Kari – Physiotherapy
September 24 Year 6
Inspired by one of our Year 6 pupil's own aspirations to become a physiotherapist, we were delighted to welcome Kari and Harvey (a former Fens Primary pupil) into school to work with our Year 6 children. As NHS physiotherapists, they gave us all an insight into their profession and organised a range of fun activities for us to complete, that were linked to the role of a physiotherapist. An afternoon of fun and learning was had by all.

Children Challenging Industry - Session 1
November 24 Year 5
Our Year 5 children enjoyed their first session with Mackayla Millar as part of the Children Challenging Industry programme. They found out more about industry and were set an industrial scenario with a problem-solving task around 'leaky pipes'. Our children assumed a range of roles in order to work collaboratively to offer solutions, investigating sealants to choose the most suitable to build a pipeline that could carry water. This is a unique project that is led by the Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC) based at the University of York, in partnership with NEPIC and local industry. This session has prepared us well as we have two more sessions before we visit Teesside Gas Processing Plant in the new year.
Michael Seth – Utilita Energy Efficiency
Thank you to Michael Seth, Energy Expert, from Utilita for delivering an energy efficiency workshop to our Year 5 children. Children learned about how we are supplied with energy and the costs that come with this. They learned valuable ways to reduce energy usage in their own lives

Our children worked as scientists and engineers, using filtering techniques to solve the issue. This is a unique project that is led by the Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC) based at the University of York, in partnership with NEPIC and local industry. This session has prepared us well for our visit by Mrs Millar next which is the next step of our journey before we visit Teesside Gas Processing Plant in the new year.

The session encouraged Year 4's creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving while introducing them to the world of engineering and technology.

A very BIG thank you to one of our Year 5 parents, Mrs Holtom, for offering her time to work with our Y5/6 Christmas show performers.
